The last place you'll find us is in our offices.

As the IT Global Applications Team, we wear many hats and consistently have the opportunity to work with multiple constituents. Needless to say, we're away from our desks a lot. Our customers vary by location and position, but basically include the entire range of GE Materials businesses, corporate headquarters and international locations. Working with such a variety of business units and businesses, IT is exposed to many different aspects of GE. There's never a dull moment.

In a highly technical company, staying a step ahead is no easy task.

Providing information technology project leadership on a global scale demands that we know how to fix problems that haven't even occurred yet - for external and internal customers. We may work with large-scale suppliers like Oracle for financial systems and Human Resource solutions, as well as smaller software vendors that develop unique solutions supporting our global New Product Introduction and compliance processes. People joining our team must realize that this kind of leadership requires global thinking, an ability to change with technology and the talent to build and leverage diverse teams.

Naturally, it's not all work. Not by a long shot. Each quarter, the team enjoys some type of extracurricular team event. Recent outings have included white water rafting, bowling and golf. For our group, it's not who wins the events; it's who gains "bragging rights for the quarter." (And that's all we feel comfortable telling you in public!)

We're building a better world.

Implementing all these global projects and initiatives has an obvious goal: supporting the key business initiatives: Globalization, Services, Six Sigma Quality and e-Business. We're also using Six Sigma tools to ensure we're hitting our marks and making concrete improvements. We're working with business unit leaders and software suppliers to improve the way the entire GE world works.

The team can be broken down along business unit lines, with one IT project leader for each "unit" within the team (i.e., Finance, HR, EHS, Technology, Sourcing, Business Development, and Legal). Here are two profiles of what these people do:

IT Project Leader, Human Resources
These individuals guide the implementation and selection of software as necessary for the Human Resources division. For example, in 1999, we implemented Oracle in this area. Project leaders should have a strong technical background and a record of leadership.

IT Project Leader, Datawarehousing
Individuals in this position are responsible for implementing the Global Sourcing Datawarehouse and other necessary software to support business initiatives. Project leaders should have a strong technical background and a record of leadership.

If you want a global job that will allow you to learn about multiple GEP businesses quickly, then IT Global Applications is for you.
