This is where Wall Street meets Main Street.

We facilitate all types of strategic relationships and alliance activities. Our goal is to help GE Plastics grow and improve its future profitability, which includes acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic minority investments in all kinds of companies.

We help the business reshape itself for the future.

The Business Development (BD) team supports the business leaders by analyzing all types of strategic options for the future, and by translating strategic direction into a target list of acquisition or alliance companies. We then provide valuation, negotiation, and diligent support to drive deals to closure. Team members have a strong knowledge of 'valuation' techniques, negotiation experience, project management and finances.

Nothing beats the thrill of a signature "on the dotted line."

It is exhilarating when a deal gets closed. Hours and hours of effort come together when the documents are signed. A typical deal involves six major steps in the process. It starts with Strategic Planning and Target Identification; continues with Target Screening and Contacting; Deal Structuring and Letter of Intent Negotiations; Due Diligence and Final Contract Negation & Closing; and ends with Post Deal Integration. Passing through each tollgate means the deal is one step closer to making a difference to GEP.

Everyone does a little financial modeling, a little management, and a lot of negotiating.

Creativity - in bridging the gap between buyer and seller - is the hallmark of a great deal person. The BD team has to help the operating team identify and quantify areas of synergy to justify acquisition costs. Here are brief descriptions of positions within Business Development:

Manager, Business Development
BD Managers must continuously prioritize the many requests for deal support that come in from the various business leaders. They then determine the benefits and costs of the proposed deal by working with a cross-functional team including: business leaders, marketing team, financial team and technologists. Next, they work with the BD financial team to develop a financial model to determine the impact of the deal on the business. If a deal passes these hurdles, the BD Manager will assemble a negotiating team and meet with Executive Management of the target company. Most of the members of the BD team have a technical or marketing undergraduate degree and a Master's in Business Administration. The position requires lots of creativity and strong strategic, analytical, financial and negotiating skills. Successful BD Managers may have the opportunity to move into business leadership positions such as GM of business, GM of Sourcing, or Manager of Finance.

BD Associate
BD Associates support BD managers and, with experience, manage small deals on their own. The position also provides the opportunity to interface with senior and executive management. Successful BD Associates have the opportunity to move into BD Manager roles or into other functional leadership positions in the company.

Financial Analyst

Financial Analysts are critical to the BD operation as they develop and run financial models that help GE management assess the value of a particular deal. They also conduct background research on companies to determine what competitors or related companies are doing. Financial Analysts often attend meetings with GE Operating management to present financial results and answer questions related to the deals under review.
