Our job is everyone's job.

Together with every GE Plastics employee, we are responsible for the safety of the company and the environment. By reducing risks of our production facility and products, minimizing the impact on the environment and informing customers, neighbors, government agencies and plant operations about anything that can affect them, we're making everyone's lives better and safer.

Making the floor safer.

The Global Safety team has developed a program to measure and analyze unsafe behavior on the shop floor. This program, which involves the active input of both management and operators, contributed to a reduction of injuries, as well as providing a base for a change in culture at the shop floor.

For example, the environmental specialist at the site in Bergen op Zoom (The Netherlands, Europe) designed a process to reduce one of the major air emissions at the resin facility. In total, they achieved a reduction of 98%! This process was translated to all our resin facilities and made a huge contribution in our total reduction of air emissions.

Without us GE Plastics wouldn't be able to produce plastics.

EHS has various positions. The Safety Specialist at a production facility trains the operators to use personal protective equipment. The Communication Leader informs the neighbors of our production facilities about any Emergency Response Drill. The Product Steward works closely with Marketing to ensure that the customer gets the right product with the right information. The Environmental Facility Leader reviews environmental permits with the local government for any expansion of the production facility. And, finally, the Global EHS Quality Leader develops new processes to reduce the wastewater sludge at 12 facilities at different countries.

We make people aware.

The best part of working in the Environmental, Health & Safety field is knowing that you influence people to be more aware of the impact of our processes and products on their health and the environment. What's the most glorious moment for every Environmental, Health & Safety professional? That's easy. It's when you've helped employees to be safer both at work and at home after another hard day of work.

We all have one thing in common: our passion for people and their interaction with the environment. Here are just a few examples of the positions in our area:

Environment, Safety and Health Specialist
Of all the functions in EHS, the specialist is the link between our paper manuals and the actual execution of our Environment, Health & Safety policy. The Specialist works very closely with the operators and management. He or she is responsible for the implementation, executing, monitoring and measuring of all the environmental, health and safety programs within GE Plastics. A degree in EHS or engineering is nice to have, but the most important part of this job is being able understand the language of management and operations. It is the perfect job to get to know all the aspects of operating a production facility and could lead to a management position inside or outside EHS.

Global Leader Environmental Programs

Working with Business Development in the due diligence of possible acquisitions and with the General Manager of Technology to establish new R&D Centers, Global Leaders need excellent negotiating and communication skills.
